Strip Products
Sundwiger Messingwerk – Member of the KME Group
Sundwiger Messingwerk is a fully integrated manufacturer of high-quality copper alloys, which processed into technically sophisticated strip and wire products, reliably distributed to an international customer base. Our product portfolio ranges from bronze, nickel silver and low-alloyed copper-base alloys to heat treatable special alloys.
For wires, we also offer wire products made of copper. Our technical advisors design material concepts in close cooperation with customers and partners. Due to the diversity of possible applications, our products are represented in almost all industries. The main applications are in the automotive, electrical and telecommunications sectors.
In the area of strip products, we not only offer standardised solutions, but also the possibility to individually adapting our products and their properties to specific customer requirements.
Depending on the composition, this depends on the cold forming and the annealing parameters adjusted to it.

Surface
For the diversified product portfolio in the area of flat products, the Sundwiger Messingwerk also offers hot-dip tinned and electroplated surfaces in addition to the physical and technological characteristics of the basic material.
Surface condition / roughness
The roughness of the material is determined by the use of the working roll of the rolling-mill. Different roll classes are available here. According to our Sundwig standard, the surface roughness (Ra) is between 0.10 and 0.20 µm. Other roughnesses are available on request.
Surface protection
All uncoated strip products are passivated according to our standard. The passivation increases the oxidation resistance of the material. Alternatively, the material can be supplied with an oiled or completely untreated surface.
Hot-dip tinning
In many technical applications where metals are used, surface plating is of fundamental importance. This is particularly true for plating of copper-based materials with tin. Besides corrosion protection, tin plating ensures reliable connector contacts and improved solderability.
Hot-dip tinned surfaces form system- inherent intermetallic phases, thereby rendering it largely resistant to whisker formation which could lead to possible defects of electrical components.
Galvanic plating
In addition to hot-dip tinning, Sundwiger Messingwerk offers a wide range of electroplating techniques for various requirements. These are used where tight coating thickness tolerances or a combination of different coatings are required. The coating layer of the strips plated with tin or nickel is even over the entire surface. It can be matt or glossy.
Milled strip / profiled strip
For the increasing requirements of the semiconductor industry, we supply high-precision profiled strips. These are used when different functional zones are used in a component.

Delivery Forms
The delivery form of our products depends on the technical equipment of our customers. Three basic designs are available. These are each adapted to the equipment available at our customers.
Coils / Rings
The most used form are coils. Here, the individual coils are stacked on pallets, usually separated by spacers.
Traverse wound Strip
In the spooled version, several coils are wound in one spool. The coils are connected with help of a weld seam. In this way, set-up times can be saved in the subsequent process steps.
Multiple Pancake
Multiple pancake is a special form of coil design. Here, the individual coils are connected alternately at the inner and outer windings by weld seams. The created “endless strip” can be unwound directly from the pallet on turntables.
Production process
With three rolling mills, we not only have a high level of rolling capacity, but we also have the ability to guarantee even the lowest rolling tolerances within the Sundwiger fine tolerance. By using two 20-roll rolling mills, we can also offer the thinnest material thicknesses with the lowest tolerances.
